Battery Maintenance in Extreme Weather

No one wants to be stranded on the road with a dead battery. Batteries don't last forever, though, and it's important to understand the impact that extreme temperatures can have on your battery. Before severe weather sets in, check your battery's condition.

Batteries can die in the winter because of a need for more power from the starter and accessories. The viscosity of the motor oil is thicker in extreme cold, which in turn causes the starter to need more power to turn the engine. The cold temperatures can also affect the actual power capacity of the battery. The summer can be a rough time on your battery as well, causing the battery's life to shorten.

When the seasons change or you are planning a long drive in your vehicle, bring your vehicle in to Taggart Cars, and we will test your battery and provide any other auto services you need.
